18/11/2008 - CENTRAL COAST SPORTS FEDERATION GETS A START

Kevin Greene MP, Minister for Gaming and Racing, Minister for Sport and Recreation

The Central Coast’s new “voice for sport” has been welcomed by the Minister for Sport and Recreation, Kevin Greene.

Mr Greene and local MP’s David Harris, Grant McBride and Robert Coombs joined the local community at the launch of the Central Coast Sports Federation in Tumbi Umbi today.

“I’m pleased to be here today to participate in the launch of the first regional sporting advocacy group in NSW,” Mr Greene said.

“A Central Coast Sports Federation gives local people involved in sports the chance to have a voice on matters of direct concern to them.

“A lot of community effort has gone into the creation of this group, and I can’t urge Central Coast sports clubs and organisations strongly enough to take advantage of the opportunity to use its expertise,” he said.

Mr Greene said the group was also now a member of the NSW Sports Federation, the State’s peak sports representative body.

“I congratulate the members of the region’s sporting fraternity for demonstrating leadership and commitment to their community in creating the Federation.”

The Member for Wyong, David Harris, welcomed the group, which he expected would work very well with the State and Local Government.

“I know this group is eager to make the Central Coast an attractive area to host major sporting events, which will be a great boost not just for the Central Coast community, but also participants and fans as well,” he said.

Mr McBride, the Member for The Entrance, also welcomed the formation of the Group.

“I know the Federation is keen to support the development and implementation of programs that facilitate the well-being of the community’s health and fitness,” he said.

Swansea MP Robert Coombs congratulated the Federation on its formation.

“The aims and objectives of the Central Coast Sports Federation echo Government priorities when it comes to sport and recreation in NSW, he said.

“I look forward to a positive and productive relationship and wish the Central Coast Sports Federation the very best.”
