11/11/2008 - SPORTS MANA/GEMENT COURSE FOR COACHES OR MANAGERS

11 November 2008

NSW Sport and Recreation Minister Kevin Greene today encouraged community sport volunteers to enroll in a sporting team management course to be held in St Ives in two weeks.

Mr Greene said the `Orientation to managing sport teams' course will run on Monday the 24th of November from 6.30pm to 10pm at the St Ives Library.

"This is a great chance for people who work with sporting teams or individual athletes to increase their knowledge about roles and responsibilities when working in the junior sports environment," he said.

"It's designed to give some great plain-English advice to those who coach or manage sport teams or individual athletes at a school, junior club or regional level.

"On the evening, the course will also focus on codes of behaviour in sport, athlete nutrition, child protection laws and anti-harassment policies.

"I really encourage people out there who are volunteering their time to help a team or athlete to attend this one-night course because it could be very helpful," Mr Greene
said.

The course costs $69 and includes a manual, workbook and certificate.

It is taught by experts from NSW Sport and Recreation who will also be on hand to answer any questions.

Attendees should go to the St Ives Library Meeting Room, St Ives Shopping Village.

Two more courses will be run elsewhere for people unable to attend on the 24th.

Marrickville: Tuesday 25 November, 6.30pm 10pm

Wollongong: Wednesday 26 November, 6pm - 10pm
