20/01/2009 - $200,000 BRUMBY GOVERNMENT BOOST SAVES ST ARNAUD POOL

The future of St Arnaud’s swimming pool has been preserved thanks to a $200,000 Brumby Government funding boost, Sport and Recreation Minister James Merlino said today.

Visiting the pool for a look at how the funding boost will benefit the St Arnaud community, Mr Merlino said the upgrade will lead to better water quality, less pool maintenance and important water savings.

“The Brumby Government is taking action to ensure all Victorian communities have the facilities they need to encourage healthy, active involvement in sport and recreation,’’ Mr Merlino said.

“This project will reinvigorate this community hub and provide an even safer, water efficient facility for the St Arnaud community and surrounding townships.

“The upgrade includes improved pool facilities and the construction of a reception area, new office, First Aid room, and change room. The existing water processing plant will be upgraded to a new water saving system.’’

Funding for the upgrade will be provided through the Seasonal Pool Renewal funding to go towards a rejuvenation of the pool’s facilities.

Mr Merlino said the Seasonal Pool Renewal initiative is a category of the Community Facility Funding Program , which has invested $170 million towards more than 1870 sport and recreation facilities across Victoria since 2000.

“By providing quality sport and recreation facilities, we’re offering Victorians more opportunities to get active and involved in their community which is what our Go for your life campaign is all about,” Mr Merlino said.

In addition to the Brumby Government contribution Northern Grampians Shire Council has contributed $100,000 towards the upgrade.
