Interview with Sharlene Water from eteam manager
Sharlene Water from eteam manager (www.eteammanager.com.au) talks about how eteam manager can assist teams and businesses in saving time and effort.
Q. Tell us a little about your business and how you started
A. Sport today is a fundamental part of the Australian lifestyle. It enriches our lives and our health and it brings people together. Sport has become big business and clubs need to keep ahead of the latest principles and practices in order to survive. Sport in Australia is still dependent on dedicated volunteers who have to give up their time and energy.
All types of clubs and individuals are seeking simplified communication solutions to remain competitive in an increasingly mobile and technologically advancing world. Eteam Manger enables clubs to send individual or bulk messages within seconds at a fraction of the time and cost of a voice call. With 80% of sports clubs and team manager’s telephone communications costs being land line to mobile phone charges, SMS is the perfect way to dramatically reduce telecommunications spend. Having been a team manager for many years for several different types of sports clubs and working within the IT industry, I thought there had to be a better way and partnered with a software company to develop a solution.
eteam manager can assist clubs to manage their teams. Our basic service alerts team members on a nominated day prior to their game with game details - date, time, where, map reference, opposition and duties. eteam manager can also be used for any changes or urgent notifications that need to be sent to the team quickly and inexpensively. Messages are tailored to suit the club and the sport.
Q. What type of people use your services?
A. At the moment we have all sorts of teams, Hockey, Basketball, Football, Surf Life Saving, Netball, Golf, Cricket Clubs and Sports Stadiums. Eteam can be adapted to any type of communication requirements but we specialise in sport.
Q. What are the key advantages of using your services?
A. It’s easy, effective and efficient and people love to get text messages. We can offer a fully administered service or an extremely simplified log on and send messages yourself service. Most clubs use a mixture of both.

Our broadcast service is great to alert club members and supporters to fundraising events. We recently sent a text message to members for a sports night at a local football club. They had the biggest attendance to any fundraising function and in turn raised more money than at any previous event.
Q. What are the biggest issues you are currently facing?
A. Clubs and team managers thinking they are not tech savvy enough to take full advantage of the features we offer. Eteam actually set up all administration and its then basically just a matter of logging on and tying a message. Also, clubs have limited finances available and think eteam is another expense. If they actually looked at the communication spend for the club and the individual team managers they would be blown away at how much we can save the club and improve efficiency and communication.
A. All our customers keep coming back each season. We’re hoping that word gets around and clubs at least give us the opportunity to offer them a free trial. We’ve got some great ideas and want to share them!
Q. What is your background, and your most important values or philosophies?
A. I’ve basically been there, done that! Being a full time working parent and having three children who all played a wide variety of sport I understand the need to know where they need to be, what time they need to be there, who’s on duty and basically what colors they should be wearing. I know we are all time poor but also know that without the dedication of volunteers clubs just wouldn’t be able to function. I’ve been on committees and understand there isn’t really any spare cash to waste but also know a well run club is cost effective and will attract the best sports members and supporters.
