Interview with Katherine Fong from Dulwich Hill Badminton Club

Tell us a little about your club and how many members do you have?
We have players from everywhere who wants to play badminton. Currently, we have about 75 members (adults and children).

How did you get into this sport?
When we get our son to learn how to play badminton so the whole family can play.

Fundraising is a big aspect of sports club, what have been some successful initiatives by your club?
I had done quite a few fundraising when my son was representing the state when he was 15 years old. We sell chocolates to raise money for the team to go away to play in the June Bevan competition.

What are the biggest issues/challenges your club is currently facing?
We don’t received any money to support our club & shuttles are quite expensive. To keep the club going, so when we retire the younger generation can take over running the club. So the sport does die.

Where do you see your club heading in the future?
We have a number of young kids coming up and I think our club will be well known in NSW. We have train young kids ages range from 6 till 16 years old. We hope one day, they will be representing the Country.

If any player wanted to join your club, when do you think would be the best time?
We need to check with the player what standard they are in so we can fit them in the days allocated.

What event(s) does your club have coming up?
Our SBA association will have a junior tournament on the 26 and 27/07/08 at Olympic Park. Starting time at 9 am till 6.30 pm.
